Health Visitors have a general nursing qualification and may also have additional qualifications in different aspects of nursing: for example midwifery, sick children's nursing and mental health as well as the health visitor's qualification.
The focus of their work is in the community promoting good health and preventing or detecting ill health among all age groups, particularly offering guidance and advice in the following areas:
  • Children's health - age 0-5
  • Antenatal and postnatal care
  • Immunisations
  • Family and community health
  • Support for carers
